Description
AWC works with Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and Refugee (BAMER) adults, children and young people, fleeing domestic and sexual abuse including forced marriage, human trafficking, female genital mutilation, gang violence and ‘honour’-based violence.
AWC offer confidential one to one and group support to women and girls, including those with mental health needs who are experiencing any form of these violence and abuse, enabling them to make informed choices and exit violent situations.
Description: African Women Care (AWC) was established in July 1998 primarily as a self-help group to deal with issues affecting women and children from the Black African Community living in the UK. Our work addresses issues of poverty, disadvantage, women’s disempowerment, unemployment, health, social exclusion and skills development.
Offering:Â (1) Advice, information, support and advocacy including outreach work enabling women to access services in the area of health, social care, housing and welfare benefits. (2) Provide support services counselling and mentoring for women who have experienced or affected by domestic violence. (3) We run befriending service to provide home and hospital visits through an existing pool of committed volunteers for women with terminal or life-threatening illnesses.
